The Stats Sheet: Week 17

ARGONAUTS.CA STAFF

Throughout the year, argonauts.ca will take a look at some of the statistical leaders following each game and compare how they match up against both their teammates and the rest of the Canadian Football League.

RUSHING YARDS – RB Cory Boyd

Once again, running back Cory Boyd was easily the Argos’ most productive offensive player this weekend in Winnipeg. Boyd combined for 156 total yards (86 rushing, 70 receiving).  Sixty-six of those receiving yards came in the second quarter when he took a Cleo Lemon swing pass, juked around one defender and split two others on his way to the endzone.  Boyd’s 86 rushing yards fell short of Blue Bombers RB Fred Reid‘s total on the day (105) but still keeps him the lead for the CFL rushing title heading into the final two weeks.

DEFENSIVE TACKLES – LB Kevin Eiben

LB Kevin Eiben continues his solid play and seemed to be all over the field on Saturday.  The veteran Canadian racked up 4 DT, 2 ST, 1 QB Sack, and 1 Forced Fumble. No play was bigger than the forced fumbled as he knocked Bombers’ starting quarterback Steven Jyles out of the game with a crushing hit that forced a turnover.

League Leader
LB Barrin Simpson (SSK)

QUARTERBACK SACKS – DE Ronald Flemons

Veteran defensive end Ronald Flemons seems to be getting better as each week passes.  The gentle giant added two more sacks to his season tally to go along with 5 defensive tackles.  His first sack saw him chase down backup QB Alex Brink, who had escaped the pocket, and bring him down for a loss.  The hit would end up pushing Brink from the game with an injury and the Bombers were forced to go to their third and final option in QB Joseph Elliott.

Argos Leader
DT Kevin Huntley
9 Quarterback Sacks

League Leader
DL Phillip Hunt (WPG)
15 Quarterback Sacks

ALL-PURPOSE YARDS – WR Chad Owens

Chad Owens did it again! He took a kick back for a touchdown, something that he has done in all three games against Winnipeg.  This week he took a missed Justin Palardy field goal 109 yards for a touchdown at the end of the first half. Owens is now running away with the league’s combined yards lead with a 821-yard advantage on second place Deon Murphy
