TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club will welcome McMaster Marauders’ QB Asher Hastings to 2015 training camp. Hastings will join the team on the field for the first time during Rookies & QBs Camp tomorrow (Wednesday, May 27) at approximately 2:00 p.m. at York Stadium.
The CFL is committed to developing national quarterbacks at the CIS level. As part of the quarterback internship program, the CFL has assigned each of the nine CFL teams with an underclassmen national quarterback who is ineligible to sign a contract or play in a CFL pre-season game.
Hastings, a 6-4, 215-pound, native of Regina, Saskatchewan, will enter his second season at McMaster. In limited action during the Marauders Yates Cup run last season, he completed 30-of-50 passing attempts (60%) for 447 yards and two passing touchdowns.
Prior to enrolling at McMaster last fall, Hastings spent four seasons, including two seasons as a starter, with the CJFL’s Regina Thunder. At the helm of the Thunder’s offence, Hastings completed 118-of-189 pass attempt for 1,765 yards. In 2013, he led his club to a 55-26 victory over the Vancouver Island Raiders and was awarded the 2013 Wally Buono Award as Canada’s top junior football player.
