Training Camp Diary: Day Eight

Argonauts.ca staff

TORONTO – After the fun of Fan Day and the Double Blue game on Saturday, it was back to business Sunday, as the Argonauts took part in their last full practice before the start of the CFL pre-season on June 7.

With the first taste of real game action so close, coaches organized a light practice without shoulder pads, keeping contact to a minimum while focusing mostly on schemes and system work.

The team did a substantial amount of special teams work, as special teams coordinator Scott Downing worked at length with the kickers and coverage/return units.

WR Vidal Hazelton returned to practice after sitting out the Double Blue scrimmage, and made a great touchdown grab during the team period, which he styled with a dance. Big receiver Tori Gurley also looked good in his fourth practice with the Argos, after a strong showing during the Double Blue scrimmage.

Defensive coordinator Casey Creehan was fired up in the positional huddles following practice, challenging his defence to be better on Tuesday.

The Argonauts will now have a walkthrough on Monday, before travelling downtown to historic Varsity Stadium Tuesday evening for the beginning of the preseason.
