It’s Labour Day Monday in Hamilton and the Argos are seeking revenge against the ‘Cats. The Boatmen have lost two straight games to the Tabbies for the first time in seven seasons and are in the midst of a two-game losing slide.
This game marks the fourth of six straight games for the Argos against East Division opponents. The Boatmen take on Hamilton in the Labour Day Classic, then Montreal, and finally return home against Winnipeg before meeting their first western opponent on September 20 (Calgary). The Argos are 1-2-0 during this current stand and can still finish strong with a winning record.
The Argos have lost two straight games but they will get a big boost on offence with the return WR Bethel Johnson who has been out of the lineup since week 3. Johnson had 2 catches for 24 yards before leaving the week 2 game against Hamilton with an ankle sprain.
QB/WR Reggie McNeal will make his third straight start at wideout and now returns to Ivor Wynne where he made his CFL debut and caught 6 passes for 101 yards on August 7.
The Argos will also employ three CFL rookies in the defensive secondary. DB Jason Shivers will make his first CFL start and has been inserted into Kenny Wheaton’s halfback spot. Wheaton will start at safety. DB Kenny Heatly, who has seen significant time in the defence this season, will start again at short-side defensive back and Willie Middlebrooks will start at wide-side corner.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Ivor Wynne Stadium and can be watched live on TSN or heard live with Mike Hogan and Pete Martin on the FAN590 radio.
The next Argonauts home game is Friday, September 12, kickoff 7:00 p.m. vs the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Argos will celebrate the 1950s as both teams will don retro jersey’s from the 1950 season. The Argonauts have also made available a limited number of lower bowl seats ($67 value) for just $19.50 to honour the 1950 Mud Bowl.
