Preview:
The Argonauts travel to B.C. Place Stadium to take on the B.C. Lions this Saturday night. The Lions are winners of six of their last seven games while the Boatmen have dropped seven straight.
Despite the record, there is reason for optimism in Argoland. Each of their past three games have been highly competitive and have uncovered a bounty of talent on both offence and defence. Also, a win by Toronto in a stadium they haven’t triumphed in since 2002 would provide some confidence to a young team with a great deal of potential.
Coach Matthews declared this week that the defensive line led by team sack-leader #97 Jonathan Brown (7 sacks), #78 Adriano Belli, #98 Claude Harriott and #92 Walter Curry have been among the brightest stars down the stretch. He also praised rookie DS #20 Will Poole and DB #6 Jason Shivers for their tenacious play on defence.
Kerry Joseph is coming off two of his best games as an Argo, having thrown for a season-high 400 yards and 3 touchdowns last week against the first place Alouettes. Rookie #14 WR P.K. Sam has been spectacular on offence, catching for 145 yards and 152 yards and 17 total receptions over the last two games. One more 100+ yard game and he’ll be the first Argo to catch for at least 100-yards in three consecutive games since All-Time Argo Derrell “Mookie’ Mitchell in 2000. Another rookie, QB/WR Reggie McNeal is coming off a 100+ yard performance and scored his first CFL touchdown on a 91-yard pass and catch from Kerry Joseph last week.
The Toronto Argonauts will host an away game party for fans interested in taking in the final away game of the season this Saturday night (October 25) at Jack Astor’s Bar & Grill in Whitby, Ontario (75 Consumers Drive). All are welcome, there will be prizes, fun and most of course the 2008 Argos cheerleaders, kickoff is 10:00 p.m. ET.
The Argos host the Saskatchewan Roughriders next Thursday, October 30, 7:30 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre. Tickets are available by calling 416-872-5000 or by clicking here.
