From Dallas, Texas, I’d like to say hello to all the wonderful Argos fans and to the rest of the great fans of the CFL. In the off-season, my full-time job is trying to be the best husband and dad I can be, in addition to preparing my mind and body for the upcoming season. So here’s a week in the life of Willie Pile.
Monday started with an early morning wake-up from my son Jaylen (he’s always up early). We eat breakfast and watch pre-school programming shows like Hip Hop Harry, Lazytown and Go Diego Go, to provide some morning entertainment. We then watch ESPN, play with his toys and read a few books before it’s time for his lunch. He usually falls asleep after this and I’m able to then get in a workout. I usually work out at home using the P90X DVDs and supplementing other parts of a good workout at the gym and at the middle school football stadium. After this particular chest and back workout, Jaylen wakes up and does some extra push-ups with me. We then eat another snack (my lunchtime), take our dog Blitz for a walk, and then wait for my wife Keia to come home from work. We eat dinner, and Keia and I often alternate between who gives Jaylen a bath and who puts him to sleep. On this night, I’m on sleep duty.
It’s Tuesday, and yesterday we got the call from Jaylen’s agent that he has a JC Penney photo shoot at 8:45 a.m. this morning. He’s been modelling for 5 months and he’s been in several print ads that run nationally. Today, he’s modelling sleepwear. I feel like I’m a regular on the modelling circuit so I’ve truly become a “stage dad”. But all the parents are cool and we have great conversations on current events and other modelling opportunities for the kids. Meanwhile, Jaylen went on set and took great photos. So now we’re headed back home for a repeat of our routine from yesterday.
