Argos Get A Boost At Receiver Heading Into Hamilton

ROSTER | ARGOS POSITION CHART (print version) | HAMILTON POSITION CHART | VIDEO | GAME NOTES

Throughout his first training camp with the Double Blue, Argos sideline chief Bart Andrus has stressed the importance of speed. Speed on offence, speed on defence and overall speed in the way in which the club practices.

Speed could quite possibly be the featured story heading into the Argos’ pre-season finale versus Hamilton on Tuesday evening with no less than five of the Argos’ quicker receivers getting their chance to suit up for the first time after being sidelined with injuries last week.

Along with the return of Kinsmon Lancaster, Kenny O’Neal and Brad Smith, the Argos will get their first look this season at Reggie McNeal and Jerome Mathis.

McNeal, who has the most experience in Argos colours among the group, enters the game with a clear description of what his job entales. The 25 year old is listed at receiver and has been since the opening of training camp. Barring unforeseen circumstances, that is where he will stay. The assurance that he will remain a receiver is a new notion to McNeal who has transitioned back and forth from quarterback to receiver for the better part of his career since leaving Texas A&M. McNeal, listed as a backup quarterback for the first half of last season, made his debut at the wideout position in Hamilton on Labour Day last year.

The Argos will also receive a boost on the defensive side of the ball with the return of 2008 East All-Star and veteran leader DE Jonathan Brown.  Brown has been sidelined for the majority of camp with a back injury and will look to give his body its first test come Tuesday night.

Linebacker Zeke Moreno will have to wait for his first visit to Ivor Wynne in enemy colours as he sits out with a foot injury.  He will be joined by LB/DE Richard Seigler and WR Todd Lowber

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton and can be heard at Fan590.com.  There is no television for this game.  To purchase tickets, please call 905-547-CATS or click here to buy online.
