Lance Chomyc

Medlock’s performance Friday night tied him with former kicker Lance Chomyc on the Argos Single-Game Field Goals Made list.

Medlock was one field goal short of the CFL record held by a trio of great kickers. Dave Ridgway (1984, 1988), Mark McLoughlin (1996) and Paul Osbaldiston (1996) have all hit eight field goals in a game).

What may be most impressive with Medlock’s performance were the distances from where he hit his field goals. His longest was from 52 yards, but he also connected from 15 yards, 46 yards, 51 yards, 51 yards, 32 yards, and 17 yards to cap off an impressive night.

The rookie kicker is an impressive 18/19 on field goal attempts this season, trying Calgary’s Sandro DeAngelis with a league-leading 94.7% accuracy rating. Medlock’s only miss was a 57-yard attempt that hit the upright in Week #6.

The Argonauts signed Medlock as a free agent in April. He graduated from UCLA as the school’s second-most prolific scorer of all-time with 357 points. As a senior, he earned unanimous First-Team All-Pac 10 honours.

Medlock was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs as a fifth round pick in 2007 and most recently spent time with the St. Louis Rams in2008 before joining the Argos.

The Argonauts have a history of finding exceptional kicking talent from UCLA. The ‘Big Z’, Zenon Andrusyshyn, also starred for the Bruins from 1967-69 and is still fourth on the school’s all-time punting average list.
