TORONTO — Blazing speed has Wilfrid Laurier’s Taurean Allen near the top of the CFL’s Amateur Scouting Bureau heading in to the Canadian Draft. The three-time OUA All-Star for the Golden Hawks is the eighth ranked prospect in the nation heading into the May 2nd draft.
At last month’s CFL Evaluation Camp presented by Reebok Allen impressed scouts by posting the second fastest times in both the 40-yard dash and the short shuttle. The Etobicoke, Ont. speedster ran a 4.44 second 40 and was just one one-hundredth off of the fastest time in the shuttle at 4.04 seconds.
Allen also performed well in one-on-one drills against the receivers, which are known to be geared toward the offense. He showed why he has earned a reputation as a lock down corner that can match even the fastest receivers step for step.
“Speed will be my number one asset. It allows me to do a lot of different things and I can take more risks and make up for any mistakes,” Allen said prior to last month’s E-Camp.
The Laurier cornerback also has the versatility to be used on any special team. He can return kicks or be the first man down the field on cover teams.
Now that E-Camp is over Allen’s sights are set on the upcoming Canadian draft.
“I’ll work on [being more physical] and just keep working on my footwork, keep getting better, keep progressing.” he says.
“A CFL team should select me in the draft because of my unmatched work ethic, love, and knowledge of the game of football,” he adds.
TSN will broadcast the first two rounds of this year’s Canadian Draft on May 2nd, from noon until 2 p.m. ET.
