The Stats Sheet: Week 2

ARGONAUTS.CA STAFF

Throughout the year, argonauts.ca will take a look at some of the statistical leaders following each game and compare how they match up against both their teammates and the rest of the Canadian Football League.

KICK RETURN YARDS – WR/KR Chad Owens

Most didn’t think he would have done it again. Albeit, Hamilton’s Marcus Thigpen is going toe-to-toe with him for possible Special Teams Player of the Month honours, Argo fans can’t help but be pleased with the play of newcomer Chad Owens.  Only 8 days after taking a Calgary punt 90 yards for a touchdown, the Double Blue speedster fielded a missed Alexis Serna field goal , blew past the first wave of down field tacklers and was off to the races, recording his second kick return touchdown in as many weeks 117 yards later.  He finished the night with 272 total return yards and 30 receiving yards.

RUSHING YARDS – RB Cory Boyd

After an impressive 147-yard showing in the Argos’ final pre-season game in Montreal, rookie RB Cory Boyd was limited to just 32 yards on the ground in the season opener versus Calgary.  Boyd’s second game was a different story however, as he powered for 109 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Perhaps more importantly, he averaged just over 5 yards per carry which can sometimes prove invaluable when trying to get newcomer Cleo Lemon second and medium or second and short situations to work with or in certain cases, a fresh set of downs to work with.
League Leader
RB Jamal Robertson (B.C.)
20 CAR, 222 YDS, 1 TD

Argo Leader
RB Cory Boyd
27 CAR, 141 YDS, 1 TD
