The Stats Sheet: Week 4

ARGONAUTS.CA STAFF

Throughout the year, argonauts.ca will take a look at some of the statistical leaders following each game and compare how they match up against both their teammates and the rest of the Canadian Football League.

RUSHING YARDS – RB Cory Boyd

For a third consecutive week, rookie RB Cory Boyd makes an appearance on The Stats Sheet and for good reason. The bruising back had another stellar week, putting up a career-high 148 yards on 19 carries, the majority of which was gained in the second half. Perhaps even more astounding is that Boyd is the first Argo to rush for over 100 yards in three consecutive games in 42 years. Bill Symons last did so in 1968 when he did it in four consecutive games.

INTERCEPTION RETURN TOUCHDOWNS – CB Byron Parker

It had been a long time since CB Byron Parker ran an interception back for a touchdown, at least by Argos standards. Parker notched his seventh career touchdown via interception which puts him at 7 for his career.  He already sits atop the Argos record books but is now one away from moving into a tie for first with former Argos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers great Dick Thornton on the Canadian Football League’s all-time list.

DEFENSIVE TACKLES – CB Willie Middlebrooks

After missing Week 1 with an injury, CB Willie Middlebrooks has quickly made an impact since returning to the lineup.  He picked off a Buck Peirce pass on his first possession back and this week, racked up 8 defensive tackles in the win over the B.C. Lions.  In doing so, the soft-spoken defender placed himself in the top ten in the CFL in DT with 16.
