Head 2 Head: Foley/baggs

ARGONAUTS.CA STAFF

TORONTO – Each week, argonauts.ca showcases one of the marquee matchups for fans to watch for before the Argos’ next game. This week, we take a look at a pair of mid-season additions at the rush end spot who have made significant impacts with their respective clubs.

Ricky Foley

A day before Baggs joined the Ticats, it was Ricky Foley who was making headlines in the CFL as he returned from the NFL to sign with the Boatmen instead of his previous club, the B.C. Lions.

Like Baggs, Foley’s impact on defence has been noticed but it is his special teams play that has allowed him to take his game to another level.  Foley began his Argos career in September, recording a sack on his first play.  Since then, he has been part of a rotation along the defensive line but last week in Saskatchewan he had his best game in Double Blue thus far.  Along with recording a tackle, Foley made a crucial play when he came off the edge in a field goal block formation. He put his right hand on the ball and effectively stole three points from the Riders in the process.

Foley is beginning to get more reps after slowly being worked into the defence in his first three games and could be a game-breaker on defence down the stretch for the Boatmen.

Stevie Baggs

One half of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ two-headed sack attack from a year ago, Stevie Baggs has shed his Rider green and, after a stint in the NFL, has donned the Black & Gold and Tiger-Cat supporters couldn’t be happier.

Baggs joined Hamilton last month and has been a force on an already solid defensive front four.  In just three games in Tigertown, Baggs has recorded 9 total tackles, 2 QB sacks, 1 forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

A powerful speedster coming off the edge and a responsible tackler on special teams, Baggs has been arguably the Ticats’ most productive acquisition of the season and their biggest upgrade since 2009.
