Btp: Off-season Fitness

JESSICA S.
Argos Cheerleader

Hi Argos fans!

Jessica S. coming at you with an off-season fitness report. Although the football season starts in June, your Argos Cheerleaders don’t stop working or working out!

As spring rolls around so do the auditions that will put together the cheerleading team for the 2011 season. One of my favourite ways to get my heart pumping and work up a serious sweat is through cardio. Whether I’m outside running, getting my ‘walk on’ in the gym on a treadmill, or jamming to the crazy beats in my favourite cardio class, I love to get my cardio workout in whenever I can.

What better way to get your mind and body ready for dancing than, well, dancing?!  There are tons of great dance studios in downtown Toronto that offer some amazing drop-in classes for dancers of all levels. One of my favourite places is O.I.P dance studio, and their amazing teacher, Kojo ‘Tuch’ Mayne.

Some of my teammates also use dance to stay in shape. “My favourite dances include; Latin, Bachata, Merengue & Salsa. Dancing is the best workout/stress reliever for me,” says Argos Cheerleading Captain Brigitte. Veteran cheerleader Alessandra N. gets in her sweat during hot yoga sessions: “It’s a great way to tone-up, detoxify, and stretch-out your body.”

There are so many ways to get your body into shape. My best advice is to find a type of exercise that you love and then ‘rock’ at that particular workout.

Remember that the 2011 Argos Cheerleaders auditions are on March 19 and 20 in downtown Toronto. Pass the word to anyone you know who loves to dance and wants to be part of our team!

Top 3 Workout Tips for Women:

Brigitte:
1. Cross Training – Combine some strength training, cardiovascular & flexibility exercises (Pilates & Yoga) in your weekly workout regime.
2. Like What You Do – Do things you enjoy so you stick with them!
3. 30 Minutes – Do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise every day. That’s all it takes and you’ll feel much better afterwards.

Alessandra N:
1. Cardio – Try some form of daily cardio exercise, even if it’s only 10 minutes.
2. Get Creative – Working out doesn’t always mean going to the gym. Take advantage of the outdoors and get active!
3.  Eat Well – Try to maintain a well balanced diet and keep hydrated.
