TORONTO — His name means ‘wisdom’ in French and CFL teams would be wise to have a look at Renaldo Sagesse come May 8th at the 2011 CFL Canadian Draft.
Sagesse, a defensive lineman from the University of Michigan, played four seasons for the NCAA’s traditional powerhouse. He started 35 games on the defensive line and showed a prowess for rushing the quarterback.
A Montreal native, Sagesse drew the attention of scouts early and found himself ranked as high as #5 on the CFL’s Scouting Bureau. However, his stock dropped a bit following the CFL Evaluation Camp in March and he finds himself just outside of the Top-15 as the draft approaches.
“I have always dreamed of playing professional football, and now it might become a reality,” said Sagesse. “Just like playing at Michigan, there are not many kids from where I’m from who get a chance to play professionally.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity in front of me, and now I have to make the most of it for myself and my family.”
At 6’4” and 289 lbs., Sagesse would be a boost at either defensive end or defensive tackle for most CFL teams. Where he ends up will be a mystery until May 8th at the CFL Draft.
