ARGONAUTS.CA STAFF

TORONTO — Andre Durie scored two touchdowns as the Argos capped off their season with a 33-16 win over rival Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Tiger-Cats would strike first when former Argos kicker, turned Ticat, Justin Medlock hit a 34-yard field goal. LB Markeith Knowlton picked off an errant Dalton Bell pass on Toronto’s second drive of the game to put Medlock in scoring position.

Durie Puts In Career Night

Argos RB/SB Andre Durie had a career night catching 8 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns.  In addition to it being his first career 100-plus yard game, he also recorded his first multi-touchdown performance as a CFL player.

Bell would bounce right back, engineering a 6-play, 81-yard drive, capped off with a 20-yard touchdown strike to RB/SB Andre Durie.  The touchdown was setup by a 32-yard Jeremaine Copeland reception, which put him over the 10,000-yard mark for his career.  He is only the 15th player in league history to do so.

Medlock would get the Ticats back on the board, hitting a field goal to pull Hamilton to within one.

Noel Prefontaine added a 46-yard field goal to send the Argos into halftime with a 10-6 lead.

Quinton Porter started the second half at quarterback for the Tiger-Cats and led an 11-play drive resulting in a 22-yard Medlock field goal to make the score 10-9 for Toronto.

Rookie RB Chad Kackert gave the Argos some more life, when he took the ensuing kickoff back 50 yards, setting up a 51-yard Prefontaine field goal.  Another rookie, BJ Hall, briefly took over the controls for the Argos at quarterback.

The Argos made another big play on the Ticats’ next drive, stopping Porter on a quarterback sneak for a turnover on downs. Prefontaine added a 49-yarder two plays later to stretch the Argos’ lead to 16-9.

Porter would get the Hamilton offence back in gear putting together an 7-play, 54-yard drive, leading to a six yard Aaron Kelly touchdown reception to tie the game at 16.

The Argos answered right back when Durie scored his second touchdown of the game on a 33-yard hitch pass and run to record his first-ever 100-yard receiving game.

The Argos increased their lead when rookie DB Jasper Simmons picked off a Quinton Porter pass and returned it inside the Hamilton 10 yard line.  Cory boyd finished off the drive with a six-yard touchdown run.

The Argos finish the season at 6-12 while the Ticats head into the playoffs, to face one of either Winnipeg or Montreal, with an 8-10 record.
