TORONTO – It’s was battle for first in the East.
With a win over the Als, the Argos could have moved into first in the division and secured the season series against the Als with only one game remaining against them.
It would not start the way the Argos had hoped, as Anthony Calvillo would lead his unit down the field on the opening drive, capping it off with a 40 yard TD catch and run to new starting RB Victor Anderson. 7-0 Alouettes early.
Swayze Waters would look ready to respond lining up for a short field goal. However, a miss-snapped ball would fly out of the reach of holder Trevor Harris. Waters would recover the loose ball, take the sack and the Als would takeover on downs.
On the ensuing drive, the Als would extend their lead even further marching down the field for the field goal. Sean Whyte would connect and extend the Als lead to ten.
That’s when everything would change.
On a drop back, an Argonauts Offensive Lineman would roll up on Ricky Ray’s leg and the veteran pivot would have to take a knee. He would head to the locker room with a “lower body injury” and not return.
Jarious Jackson would come in at QB and not miss a beat. On his first completion he would find Dontrelle Inman down the sideline for a big gain. The drive would end with a Waters field goal cutting the lead back down to seven.
10-3 Als at the end of one.

After a few back and forth drives the Argos would pin the Als on their five yard line. Calvillo however, would evade a backfield tackler and scamper for the first down on 2nd and 10. The “everything that could go wrong” day would continue as a forced fumble by Marcus Ball would fall right into the lap of Robert McCune. He would pounce on the ball but it would squirt away right back into the arms of Jamel Richardson, who originally lost the ball.
The Als would be forced to punt keeping the Argos within seven.
Following another failed drive, Calvillo would lead the Als down the field on a seven play, 80 yard drive that he would cap with a short TD pass to Trent Guy. It would be Guy’s first CFL TD and give the Als a 17-3 lead.
Waters would hit another field goal, this time from 36 yards out and it would bring the Alouettes lead down to eleven heading into halftime.
The second half would not fare any better for the Double Blue as on their first drive Swayze Waters would miss a 40 yard field goal. It would sail wide and Alouettes kick returner Trent Guy would take the ball back 129-yards for the TD. It would be the Argos third missed FG TD allowed this season. 24-6 Als.
On the next drive Chad Owens would make a 19 yard catch and run. It would put him over 1,000 yards receiving for the season, and mark the first 1,000 yard Argos receiver since Arland Bruce III accomplished the feat in 2008. Owens would also be the first player to get to 1,000 yards receiving in the CFL in 2012.
Again, the Argos would leave points on the board as Waters would miss his second field goal of the game. The Argos would walk away with just the single. 24-7 Als.
The Als would pull away even further late in the third quarter as Victor Anderson would record his second TD of the game and put the Als ahead 31-7.
The Argos defence would show some life as T.J. Williams would pounce on an under thrown ball from Calvillo for his first interception of the season.
The Als would surrender a safety and a single respectively to get the Argos to double digits and make the score 31-10 but the Alouettes would hold the ball on offence for the majority of the final five minutes and take a two game lead over the boatmen in the East Divison after the 31-10 victory.
