VANCOUVER – During the CFL Awards at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in the heart of downtown Vancouver, Argonauts’ K/P Swayze Waters was named the Canadian Football League’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2014!  Waters becomes the first Argos player since Chad Owens in 2010 to win the award, the fourth player in Argonauts history to take home the crown and the first kicker/punter in Argonauts history to win the award.

Simply put, Swayze Waters was dominant in the kicking game in 2014. He earned XX first place votes to win the award over West Division nominee, Lirim Hajrullahu of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Waters captures his first career Most Outstanding Special Teams Player Award after an incredible season that saw him lead the CFL in punting average (47.7 yards), kicking points (184) and made field goals (47), while also finishing the 2014 season a perfect 40/40 on converts and a stellar 90.4% on field goals. He even hit a 53-yard field goal (one of two field goals he made from 50+ yards this season) which stood as the longest made field goal by any kicker in 2014.

Playing in all 18 games for the Boatmen, Waters was named Special Teams Player of the Week in Weeks 15 and 20. He was also named Special Teams Player of the Month for July. Waters recently earned 2014 East Division All-Star at both punter and kicker for the first time in his career.

After signing as a free agent during the 2012 season, Waters has entered elite company with some of the great Argos kickers.  After an award-winning punting season, Waters now sits first all-time in the Argos’ record books with a career punting average of 46.7 yards.

With the award, Waters joins CB/KR Bashir Levingston (2003), RB Dominique Dorsey (2008) and SB/KR Chad Owens (2012) as the only players in the Argos’ storied existence to be named as the league’s top special teams player.
