TORONTO – Thursday marked the second day of action for the Toronto Argonauts rookies and quarterbacks, and even the most uninitiated in the ways of football could appreciate the increase in action and intensity.
Day two marked the debuts of a few fresh faces for the Argos. Daryl Waud, the Argos secound round pick in the 2015 CFL Draft, arrived in Toronto after electing to leave camp with the NFL’s Washington Redskins. Fellow Western alumnus Joe Circelli also suited up with the Argos for the first time Thursday, as did former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Blake Sims, just hours after signing his first pro contract. The running back group also got an addition as Henry Josey joined the team for the first time, delayed a day by the storms in Houston.
Day two certainly brought the intensity, as coaches were sure to use the few days they have with the rookies in order to instill basic systems and schemes before veterans report on Sunday. Linebacker Brian Rolle answered the coaches call to action, making a remarkable diving pass knockdown during team drills that had defensive coordinator Casey Creehan fired up.
But the day also brought some lighter moments, including a pursuit drill which saw long snapper Dan MacDonald (5’10, 210 lbs.) matched up head-to-head against defensive tackle Euclid Cummings (6’4, 275 lbs.). Needless to say, it was a slight mismatch.
Friday marks the final day of practice for rookies and quarterbacks before a much-needed day off on Saturday. But the time of rest will be short-lived, as Sunday will bring the first of many full-team practices before a seamless transition into the 2015 season.
