With three weeks of the 2015 season already in the books, Argonauts.ca presents By the Numbers: Bye Week edition…
1 – The Argonauts’ 42-40 double overtime win in Saskatchewan was the club’s first overtime game and overtime win since September 11, 2009, when they beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 25-22.
2 – First year Argonaut Brandon Whitaker has compiled 100+ combined yards in two of the Double Blue’s first three games – 174 in week 1 vs. EDM & 114 in week 2 at SSK
3 – Rookie receiver Tori Gurley has been one of many sure-handed targets for Argos QB Trevor Harris through three weeks. The Birmingham, Alabama native has found the end zone in each of the Argonauts three games.
4 & 5 – Argonauts Brandon Whitaker (343) and Chad Owens (335) currently rank fourth and fifth in the CFL in combined yards respectively.
5 – Argonauts DB A.J Jefferson solidified his spot in Argonauts history as he returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown vs. the Roughriders in week 2. Jefferson’s 100-yard interception touchdown is the fifth-longest pick-six in team history.
7.9 – Brandon Whitaker is currently averaging 7.9 yards per carry, tying him for the league-lead with Saskatchewan’s Jerome Messam.
9 – Trevor Harris joined some unique company after his third career start in Saskatchewan. The fourth-year Argonaut joined Matt Dunigan as only the second quarterback to throw for nine touchdowns in his first three starts since 1970. Harris has also thrown nine touchdowns in the Argonauts first three games of the 2015 season.
10 – The Argonauts defence has forced 10 turnovers in just three games – five fumbles, three interceptions and a turnover on downs.
13.8 – First-year Argonauts WR Kevin Elliott leads the team with an average of 13.8 yards per catch.
19 – Argonauts linebacker Greg Jones currently ranks second in the CFL with 19 defensive tackles in three games, an average of 6.3 tackles per game. The Michigan State product recorded 17 of his 19 tackles in the team’s last two games. If Jones continues on his current pace he’ll record 100 defensive tackles. The last Argonaut to record even close to 100 tackles in a season was Robert McCune (99) in 2013
28 – WR/KR Chad Owens has been targeted more than any receiver in the league. Owens has been targeted 28 times by Trevor Harris and has a total of 18 receptions.
50 – It didn’t take long for rookie Argonauts kicker Ronnie Pfeffer to get acclimated to the CFL. Within minutes of his first CFL game, the Wilfrid Laurier product connected on a 50-yard field goal in Saskatchewan. This kick matched the longest field goal of his CIS career with the Golden Hawks, which is currently a school record.
69 – Chad Owens now ranks third in club history for consecutive games with a reception with 69. Owens passed Argonauts great Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons last week in Calgary.
80 – The Argonauts have scored on 80% of their red zone appearances (inside the opponent’s 20-yard line), trailing only the Eskimos.
88 – The Argonauts have posed 88 points through three games, which ranks second in the CFL.
100 – The Argonauts have yet to have a 100-yard receiver through three games, but have had two receivers record numbers number just under the century mark – Owens (99 in week 1) & Hazelton (98 in week 3).
