The Argonauts turned heads around the CFL on Friday night, clawing back from an early 21-point deficit against the B.C. Lions to move to 3-1 in 2015. Week five saw the Argos’ offence continue to roll against the Lions, with a bulk of the team’s yardage recorded by the team’s trio of rookie receivers. This week it was Kevin Elliott’s turn to shine, leading all Argonauts with 81 yards receiving and a touchdown in the win. He and his counterparts, Tori Gurley and Vidal Hazelton, accounted for 189 of Toronto’s 340 yards through the air, while combining for half of QB Trevor Harris’ 30 completions. The three have now accounted for seven Argos’ touchdowns through four games and sit first, second and third in receiving yards among CFL rookies. Toronto’s offence has been clicking through the first four games of the 2015 season, and their trio of rookie targets are a big reason why.

Comeback Kids:

The Argonauts didn’t exactly come storming out of the gate on Friday night, surrendering a 21-point lead early in the second quarter to the Lions. But after a couple of first quarter interceptions, Trevor Harris returned to the form fans have been expecting from the fourth-year CFLer, while the defence tightened up down the stretch, allowing just six points the rest of the game. The Argonauts finished strong, scoring 23 points in the second half including a 12-point fourth quarter to seal the victory. It’s Toronto’s second late comeback victory of the season, and the second time that Harris has led his team on a scoring drive in the final minute of the fourth quarter after a week two victory in Saskatchewan.

Road Trip, No Problem:

The Argos entered the 2015 season knowing that the initial month would be possibly their biggest challenge. The team has yet to play a game in Toronto this season, and opened 2015 with games in Fort McMurray, Saskatchewan, Calgary and B.C. Despite the challenges of life on the road, the Argonauts were able to come out of the four-game stretch with three victories against some strong competition, and currently have an outright lead in the CFL’s East Division. As the Argos return to Ontario for their next two games including their home opener on August 8, Toronto has escaped a gruelling stretch with positive results, boding well for the team’s prospects for the rest of the season.
