– The Toronto Argonauts Football Club added depth to all three phases
of the game – offence, defence and special teams – today by signing
non-import P/K Robert Eeuwes, import S/LB Cory Peoples and import RB Da’shawn Thomas.
Eeuwes
comes to the Argos after a successful career at McGill University. The
22-year-old kicker from Burlington, Ontario accumulated 6,531 punting
yards and hit 70.6% of his field goals in three full seasons with the
Redmen. In 2005, he was named the Redmen’s Special Teams Player of the
Year after finishing 3rd in the province (16th in the nation) in punting yards with 1,728 yards on 51 punts.
A
versatile defender, safety/linebacker Cory Peoples joins the Boatmen
after spending time with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and the
Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europa. Prior to joining Eagles’ training
camp in 2005, Peoples played three seasons at the University of South
Carolina (2002-2004), where he excelled at defensive back, safety and
outside linebacker. Peoples played one season at Georgia Military
College in 2001 and started all 10 games.
At
just 20 years old, Thomas becomes the youngest player on the Argos’
roster. A football prodigy while at Salem High School in Conyers,
Georgia, he was the team’s Offensive Player of the Year as a senior
after rushing for over 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns on 101 carries.
The speedy tailback, who also excelled in state track, recently spent
time with the Georgia Generals of the North American Football League
(NAFL) where he rushed for over 1,300 yards on 120 carries and 14
touchdowns in 12 games.
