On Saturday April 26th, Canadians Wayne Shaw, Kojo Aidoo, and Bryan Crawford took part in Integrated Active Living’s second annual Climb for Cancer.
The Climb was held on
the Niagara escarpment stairs at the Chedoke Golf Course in Hamilton’s
west end. Over 400 participants took part in the day-long event and
together climbed 27 times to the equivalent height of Mt. Everest
(8,848m). Wayne, Kojo and Bryan climbed side by each with other local
athletes, politicians, media members, local celebrities, members of the
Canadian Navy, local clubs, cancer survivors, patients and community
members. All funds raised through pledges and corporate support went
directly toward the Juravinski Cancer Centre and the 1.7 million people
it serves. Once its current expansion is complete, the centre, which
overlooks the region from the edge of the escarpment, will be the
second-largest cancer centre in Ontario and fifth largest in North
America.
The Juravinski
Centre’s mission is to provide patients with high quality service in
therapy and family support, to provide leadership in education and
devotion to active cancer research. Wayne, Kojo and Bryan hope to
challenge more local CFL players and personnel to join them in next
years climb.
