Mississauga – The
Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that it has
locked-up all of its remaining eligible selections from 2008 CFL
Canadian Draft. DL/LB Jean-Nicolas Carriere, DB Delroy Clarke, OL Richard Zulys, OL Mark Dewit and WR Tyler Scott have all signed contracts with the club.
Jean-Nicolas Carriere
was taken in the 3rd round, 21st overall, by the Argonauts following a
stellar career with the McGill Redmen. He won McGill’s most outstanding
defensive player and the Willie Lambert trophy for the team’s most
dedicated player in 2006. He was selected to play in the CIS East-West
Bowl in 2007 and ended his career with 117.5 tackles in 25 career
games. Jean Nicolas lives across the street from Percival Molson
Stadium in Montreal, which he says motivates him to get better every
day.
Delroy Clarke was
selected by Toronto in the 4th round, 29th overall, in this year’s CFL
Canadian Draft. He led an excellent University of Ottawa secondary
while playing in 16 games and recording 36 tackles with 4 interceptions
over three seasons with the Gee Gees. Although Delroy grew up in
Whitby, Ontario, he was born in Kingston, Jamaica, where he learned the
game of football by watching games on television. He was a tremendous
soccer player in high school and parlayed his quick feet and athletic
ability to the football field.
Taken in the 5th
round, 37th overall, by the Argos, Richard Zulys has been a household
name at offensive tackle for the Western Mustangs over the past four
seasons. He was a vital part in running back Randy McAuley’s success in
achieving the third-highest career rushing total in CIS history and
played in the 2007 East-West Bowl game. A Toronto-native, Zulys won a
Toronto Metro Bowl Championship while playing for St. Michael’s College
in high school.
A 6th round, 42nd
overall, pick in the CFL Canadian Draft, Mark Dewit was an important
part of the University of Calgary Dino’s team over the past three
years. He made a mark on the defensive line in 2005 while recording
eight tackles, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery, then moved to
offensive line in 2006. He started all 8 games in 2006 and in 2007, was
named to the Canada West all-star team, and was chosen to play in the
2007 CIS East-West bowl.
Tyler Scott was
selected in the 6th round, 44th overall, and proved that he has what it
takes for the next level in his role as receiver at Saginaw Valley
State in the NCAA. He played in 28 games over three seasons for
Saginaw, and caught for more than 400 yards. Scott was forced to sit
out last season while transferring to Western Ontario but showed
excellent ability in various tryouts with Argos scouting staff.
