It’s all about
teamwork for the Toronto Argonauts, so the Boatmen are doing everything
they can to foster a familiar, team-first atmosphere. Today, the Argos
re-signed import OT Ulish Booker, and signed import CB Dyshod Carter and non-import OL Chris Sutherland who both have ties to the club. WR Chris Cole has also signed a free agent contract.
Booker signed a practice roster agreement with the Argonauts just prior to the
2005 East Final in Toronto, and although he did not dress for the game,
he left a lasting impression with Argos staff. Cornerback Dyshod Carter understands the velocity of a Michael Bishop pass since he played two memorable seasons at Kansas State with the veteran quarterback. Chris Sutherland played in two Vanier Cup championships over three seasons with Argos receivers Nathan Hoffart and Chad Rempel at Saskatchewan.
Booker has been an intriguing prospect for the Pittsburgh Steelers since he
first signed to their practice roster in 2005, remaining with the Club
through their Super Bowl Championship. The 300-plus pound import
lineman won a World Bowl Championship with the Amsterdam Admirals of
NFL Europa in 2004 and was named Michigan State’s outstanding senior
lineman in 2003.
Chris Cole is a former third round draft pick of the NFL’s Denver Broncos where he
dressed in 35 games over three seasons as a receiver and kick returner.
He was also a final training camp cut with the Oakland Raiders and
Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL, and signed briefly with the CFL’s
Edmonton Eskimos. He is still tenth in Texas A&M history for most
career receiving yards with 1,383.
Dyshod Carter started 44 games for the Kansas State Wildcats where he won a Fiesta
Bowl and was an important piece of their undefeated 1998 season, led on
offence by current Argos quarterback Michael Bishop.
He went on to play 19 games in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and
Arizona Cardinals. He also attended training camp with the New England
Patriots and started seven games for the Scottish Claymores of NFL
Europa.
Most CIS players aren’t fortunate enough to play in one Vanier Cup championship, let alone three. Chris Sutherland, however, has done just that. For the first two, in 2002 and 2004, he went to battle with teammates Chad Rempel and Nathan Hoffart before they both graduated. In 2005, he participated in yet another
championship game as a senior. The former Saskatchewan Huskies star
anchored an o-line that was among the best in the country from 2002 to
2005, and won three Mitchell Bowl championships in Canada West. In
2006, he was selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the fourth round of
the CFL Draft.
