Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts scouting department looked both
on the field and in the classroom to find import cornerback Antonio
Perkins and import safety Kendall Ricketts.
Perkins was twice named to the conference all-academic team at Oklahoma
and then earned a masters degree while playing in the NFL. Meanwhile,
Central Missouri star safety Kendall Ricketts has withdrawn from the
2008 NFL Draft to complete his undergraduate degree and sign with the
Argos.
Antonio
Perkins was a standout cornerback and a special teams star for the
Division 1 Oklahoma Sooners. He set the NCAA record for punt return
touchdowns in a season with four in 2003 and established a new school
record for punt return yards as a sophomore. The perennial all
conference selection, and two-time all academic pick, made 30 starts at
cornerback over four seasons and was a fourth round pick of the
Cleveland Browns in 2004. Perkins returned to Oklahoma University
between the 2005 and 2006 NFL seasons to earn a masters degree in Human
Relations.
Kendall
Ricketts arrives with an impressive football resume having been named a
three-time First-Team All-American and four-time First-Team
All-Conference selection in the Mid America conference (MIAA). He is
the only player in school history to earn All-American honours three
times and left Central Missouri first all-time in most tackles with 344
as a safety. Twice named team Defensive MVP, he once recorded 19
tackles in a single game as a junior and was a finalist for the MIAA
Freshman of the Year award.
