1. As someone who studied sociology at Stanford University, how would you analyze the social behaviour of a football team?
If
you look at it from a sociology standpoint, it is no different from any
other organization where there are strict rules. The forms of
motivation are the same. Some are motivated by fear, some by money and
some by having fun. In football, you have a lot of fun but you have the
most fun by winning, which means you have a fear of losing. Plus, the
more you win, the more money you make so it’s a mixture of all three.
2. You were a linebacker in university and now play defensive end. How hard is it to switch positions?
Not
very hard. I started college as a defensive end and moved to linebacker
so it’s like going back on the route. Both changes were awkward but
having played both makes it easier to go back and forth.
3. What are you doing in the off-season?
I am mostly working on television writing and production as well as party planning with my company Art Works.
4. Your mom was from BC and your dad lived in Washington State so you ended up living right on the border. Based on your experience, how different is Canada from the U.S.?
Not much, it’s hard to say because I think Canadians notice the difference more than the U.S. All the U.S.
sees as different is money that is worth less, the lower drinking age
and the metric system. For me, as someone who was brought back and
forth, the line gets blurred and I don’t even consider the difference
anymore. There is a bigger difference between Vancouver and Toronto than between Vancouver and Seattle. It’s more about region than country.
5. If you had to pick a theme song for your life, what would you choose?
Bogeyman by Big Gipp.
6. Do you believe there is life on other planets?
Yeah, why should we be the only one? There are a billion planets out there, are we that lucky to be the only one?
7. Who is better at reviewing movies – teammate John “J Dubbs” Williams or renowned movie critic Roger Ebert?
JDubbs because I’d be more in tune with his perspective than Ebert’s. Williams would view movies in a similar way as me.
8. What sport do you not watch at all and you cannot understand why anyone would pay money to see?
I
would have said golf before I played it. I guess I’d have to say
curling, I mean I know that it takes skill to play, all sports do, but
it seems like something that’s fun to play not pay to watch.
9. Do you watch a lot of football on TV?
I don’t watch football on TV unless it’s game film or it’s a game involving the team we play next week.
10. What is the next great invention heading our way?
The
TV show I made called Club Crashers. It’s a pilot comedy reality show;
it’s going to be a late-night cable thing like Blind Date or Elimidate.
