The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is saddened by the loss of one Canada’s greatest sports reporters, George Gross.
As
a pioneer of sports reporting in Toronto, Gross helped to found the
Toronto Sun and worked as its Sports Editor from 1971 until 1985 when
he was named the Corporate Sports Editor – a position he held until his
passing. His work ethic and dedication to craft were unmatched, as is
evidenced by his numerous awards and accomplishments:
- Enshrined in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, 2005
- Named to the Order of Ontario, 2003
- Named to the Olympic Order, 1994
- National Newspaper Award recipient, 1974

true friend of sports in Canada and the Argos, The Baron will be
missed. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, son George Gross Jr. and
his daughter Elizabeth.
