The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate legendary QB Condredge Holloway
on being inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Holloway,
along with 7 others, will be honoured at the Birmingham Ballroom on May
31st in Birmingham, Alabama.
Commented Holloway,
who is now the Assistant Athletic Director for Player Relations at the
University of Tennessee, “To be honoured and recognized by your home
state is very special and personal. After visiting the Alabama Sports
Hall of Fame, I was overwhelmed with the number of athletes with ties
to the state of Alabama. The first bust I encountered was that of Joe
Lewis, the net two were Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. Just being in the
same building as legends like them is quite an honour.”
Originally born in
Huntsville, Alabama, Holloway first made his mark at the United States
collegiate level as a star quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers
from 1972-1974. He would go on to play 13 seasons in the CFL with
Toronto, Ottawa and B.C. While doing so, he passed for over 25,000
yards and rushed for another 3,167 yards and 186 total touchdowns.
Argued by many to be
one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever don the Double Blue, Holloway
was named the CFL’s MVP in 1982 and helped lead the Argos to the 1983
Grey Cup while splitting duties with Joe Barnes and capturing Toronto’s
first Grey Cup since 1952. Holloway still holds club records for
passing yards (16,619), attempts (1,988), completions (1,149), highest
single game passing percentage (87.5%, 27 of 31) and passing touchdowns
(98). He was officially inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of
Fame in 1999.
The class of 2008 was
selected by a state-wide committee and ratified by the Board of
Directors of the ASHOF. Other inductees include Gregg Carr, Steve
Lowery, Don McNeal, Don Mincher and Oliver Robinson.
