Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts added brawn and brains to their offensive line today by signing OT Ben Brielmaier of Princeton University and OT Nikolas Sobic from Harvard University. Including previously announced DT Michael Quarshie, Columbia, the Boatmen now have three Ivy League grads attending training camp.
Ben Brielmaier is a former co-captain of the Princeton Tigers, beginning his college
career as a defensive tackle but moving to the offensive line for his
junior and senior seasons. The move proved to be pivotal as he started
20 games over two seasons at left tackle and was named second-team
All-Ivy League as a senior. Gifted both athletically and academically, Brielmaier earned a training camp place with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns as well as
a degree in electrical engineering at Princeton. Until recently, he
worked in CAD design at an aerospace engineering firm and now works as
an IT specialist in Minnesota.
Nikolas ‘Nik’ Sobic played four seasons for the Harvard Crimson, also starting his career
on the defensive line before moving to offensive tackle. He was named
second-team All-Ivy League as a senior in 2006 and started 19 games
during his junior and senior seasons. Sobic attended training camp with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints last year and
majored in economics at Harvard. It is interesting to note that Sobic
is friends with, and a former teammate of, 2006 Argonauts draft pick RB
Clifton Dawson who is currently with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.
