Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts are thrilled to announce that two-time Super Bowl Champion WR Bethel Johnson has signed a contract with the club. Johnson will report with Argos
rookies and quarterbacks and be on the field with his new teammates
this Thursday at 2:40 p.m.
Commented Argos’ Assistant GM/Director, Player Personnel Greg Mohns, “Bethel Johnson is a speedy and athletic ‘deep threat’ receiver who is also an
accomplished return man. He should give us great depth, and we expect
him to come in and challenge for a starting position. It was a
five-month recruitment process and we are thrilled to have him as a
part of the Argos family.”
The Toronto Argonauts appear to have found the ‘deep threat’ receiver they’ve been looking for this off-season in Bethel Johnson.
His 4.27 second, 40-yard dash makes him arguably the fastest player on
the roster and his two Super Bowl rings make him among the most
decorated at the pro level. Drafted out of Texas A&M by the New
England Patriots in the second-round (45th Overall) of the 2003 NFL
Draft, Johnson wasted no time making his mark by leading the NFL in
kickoff return yards average (28.2 yards/return) as a rookie. He played
three seasons for New England (2003-05) and played the 2006 campaign
with the Minnesota Vikings. He has career totals of 147 kickoff returns
for 3611 yards, 24.6 average, and 2 touchdowns in addition to 39
catches for 606 yards and 4 touchdowns as a receiver. Johnson will
compete at both the receiver and kick return positions for the Argos.
Johnson remarked, “I’m

I have ahead of me with the Argos. Training camp isn’t about playing
around; you come into camp with the ultimate goal of winning a
championship. I’m looking forward to getting on the field and winning
again.”
