The rain started to
fall just in time for morning practice and a slight drizzle soon turned
to downpour. The drills continued despite the wet conditions. The field
was slick but the players hardly noticed save for a slip up here and
there.
The team participated
in their first real special teams practice this morning, dawning the
colourful bonnets while learning kick return coverage protocol. Several
players tried their hand at long snapping to #13 Mike Vanderjagt and #70 Robert Eeuwes;
the off-season retirement of Randy Srochenski opened a spot on the
club’s roster. Possible candidates include second-year LB #6 Yves Hercule, rookies DL #91 Sean Ortiz and LB #54 Eric Maranda among others.
On this, the third day of practice and DL #78 Adriano Belli shared some tips for getting ready for the day over breakfast. For
example, during Monday’s practice he sported short-shorts which he
hiked up high around his thighs. When asked ‘why’ he answered, “because
I play better when I feel sexy.” Let’s hope the Argos uniform has the
same alluring effect. He was later heard playing the soundtrack to the
Broadway musical RENT which he claims helps to ‘pump him up’ for
practice.
Rookie WR #80 Chris Cole had a strong afternoon, making several great catches – including a sliding sideline grab. LB #32 Chuck Winters went deep with WR #5 Arland Bruce and made a great play on what could have been another highlight reel catch for Bruce.
QB #17 Michael Bishop unloaded a rocket that split three defenders and landed in the arms of WR #16 Obed Cétoute. Even on the rain soaked field the kick return duo of Bruce and RB #34 Dominique Dorsey didn’t allow a ball to slip out of their hands.

coach Jeff Cummins and Belli had the defensive line in stitches as the
two engaged in some playful banter during the D-line drills. Belli
playfully asked the Argo Alum if he could practice a bull rush on the
older coach, to which Cummins responded by getting in a three point
stance and telling Belli he could do what he wanted. The gregarious
Belli told Cummins that his three point stance was “old school.”
NOTES
Second-year player OL #57 Brian Ramsay saw significant time at right tackle today as the Argos try to find the right combination on the line.
New running back RB #24 Tyler Ebell will be celebrating his 25th birthday on Thursday.
