Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate veteran LB Mike O’Shea and rookie CB Willie Middlebrooks on being named CFL Canadian of the Week and CFL Defensive Player of the Week respectively.
Mike O’Shea made five tackles during CFL opening day weekend in Winnipeg, passing Alondra Johnson to become the CFL’s second-leading tackler all-time. One of those tackles was a jaw-jarring sack on Kevin Glenn at Winnipeg’s 15-yard line. The play forced the Blue Bombers to take a safety and added to Toronto’s margin of victory. This is the first time O’shea has been named CFL Canadian of the Week.
Rookie Willie Middlebrooks made his first CFL start and lined up against CFL All-Star Derick Armstrong last week in Winnipeg. Not only did he keep Armstrong out of the endzone, he also racked up a team-leading nine tackles and picked off a pass to close out the contest. This is the first time Middlebrooks has been named CFL Defensive Player of the Week.
