The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is mourning the loss of CFL great Ron Lancaster who passed away at the age of 69.
Lancaster began made his CFL debut with the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1960 and helped lead them to a Grey Cup in his rookie year. He would later move on to play with the Saskatchewan Roughriders where he would cement himself as one of the most dominant quarterbacks in CFL history.
He currently sits as the league leader in passing touchdowns with 333 and sits fourth all-time in career passing yards behind Damon Allen, Danny McManus and Anthony Calvillo with 50,535 (3,384 pass completions).
A four-time CFL All-Star, Lancaster was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in both 1970 and 1976.
Following his playing days, Lancaster parlayed his success on the field over to the sidelines as a coach with Saskatchewan, Edmonton and Hamilton. After spending two seasons as a player-coach, Lancaster served another two seasons as Saskatchewan’s head coach beginning in 1978. He was named Coach of the Year as the sideline boss of the Eskimos in 1993 before winning a Grey Cup in 1999 with Hamilton.
He most recently served as a Special Advisor of Organizational Development with the Tiger-Cats.
He is survived by his Bev, three children Lana, Ron and Bob and his four grandchildren.
