Toronto Argonauts RB/KR Dominique Dorsey is racing through both the Argo and CFL record books. Having already claimed team marks once held by Raghib ‘Rocket’ Ismail and Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons, Dorsey now has his sights set on achieving a new pro-football/world record for single-season combined yards.

Earlier this year in Montreal, Dorsey set a new single-game team record for kickoff return yards with 225, one yard ahead of Rocket’s 224 record number set on July 9, 1992 at Ottawa. This weekend against Calgary, Dorsey returned 7 kickoffs for 167 yards, which was not only the fourth-best single-game output in team history, but also propelled him ahead of Ismail (1,139 in 1992) and Pinball Clemons (1,117 in 1997) for the greatest single-season total in Double Blue history. With 6 games remaining, the 2007 East Division Most Outstanding Special Teams Player has already accumulated 1,239 kickoff return yards, and is just 457 yards from overtaking Eric Blount’s league record of 1,695 yards set in 1995.
Even more impressive, the CFL’s combined yards leader is poised to become the first player in pro-football history to accumulate more than 4,000 yards in a season. Dorsey is now at an incredible 2,817 total yards, and is on pace to finish with 4,226 combined yards. The total would be well ahead of Clemons’ world record mark of 3,840 set in 1997 and would make him the only person ever to break the 4,000 yard plateau.
Finally, Dorsey, who is currently at 718 yards, is also on pace to set a new team record for single-season punt return yards, ahead Clemons’ 1997 total of 1,070.
Already this season, Dorsey has been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times and runner-up twice.
