He doesn’t have a clever nickname like Pinball, Rocket or The Jet yet, but he has already broken records once held by all three. The CFL announced today that Argos’ dynamic RB/KR Dominique Dorsey has been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Month for September.
Dorsey earns the award after a tremendous month in which he set the Argos’ new single-game record for kickoff return yards, 225 vs Montreal, and set a new team single-season record for kickoff return yards, currently at 1,257 yards. He finished the month with 22 punt returns for 240 yards, 10.9 AVG, 21 kickoff returns for 631 yards, 30.1 AVG and 1 TD and 2 missed field goal returns for 67 yards. On special teams alone, he accumulated 938 total yards in five games.
The front-runner for this season’s CFL Most Outstanding Special Teams Player award and last season’s East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player, Dorsey is arguably the most exciting player in the league. Despite missing most of last week’s game due to injury, he is still leading the CFL in combined yards with 2,892 – more than 1000 yards ahead of the next most productive player, B.C.’s Ian Smart.
Dorsey has already been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Month for July and been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times this season. He has also earned honourable mention as Special Teams Player of the Week three times.
