What to Look For:
– The Argos are 4-1-0 in their last five games against the Blue Bombers; their lone loss coming at Rogers Centre on September 12.
– Toronto is 4-6-0 in its last 10 visits to Canad Inns Stadium and 3-2-0 in their last five games in the Manitoba capital.
– Toronto is 2-3-0 against the East this season, but 2-2-0 against the East on the road.
– The Argos hold the 2008 season series against the Blue Bombers 2-1-0 but have been outscored by Winnipeg 66-51 in those games.
Preview:
The Argos hopes of making a late-season playoff run will rest heavily on how they perform in Winnipeg this Friday as they take on the Blue Bombers at Canad Inns Stadium.
An Argos win, and they enter the final three weeks of the season tied for second place in the East Division, and they’ll the have season-series with Winnipeg in hand. A loss, however, surrenders the season-series to the Bombers, via point differential, and will force the Double Blue to rely on the help of Winnipeg’s remaining opponents (Calgary, Montreal and Hamilton) to recuperate some of the ground lost in the East Division standings since their last victory on Labour Day.
The Boatmen are coming off an improved performance versus the B.C. Lions – one which saw the return of QB Kerry Joseph behind centre and the brilliance of RB Jamal Robertson who rushed for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns out of the backfield in place of the injured RB/KR Dominique Dorsey.
It is somewhat fitting that Robertson heads into Winnipeg coming off a career performance as it was at Canad Inns Stadium where he made his first impact wearing the Double Blue. After brief stints with both Calgary and Saskatchewan, Robertson debuted in the Argos’ season opener versus the Bombers and rushed for two touchdowns en route to a 23-16 victory.
Robertson and Joseph will have some help on offence as newcomer (import) P.K. Sam returns to the lineup to make his first CFL start at wide receiver. He will replace non-import WR Obed Cétoute who heads to the injured list along with non-import DS Chris Hardy. Non-import DE Raymond Fontaine will take Hardy’s place on the 46-man roster.
