Kerry Joseph Named Cfl Offensive Player Of The Week

The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate QB Kerry Joseph on being named CFL Offensive Player of the Week for his career performance during CFL Week 19. This is the second time this season, and the eleventh time in his career, that Joseph has earned the award.

Kerry Joseph commented, “It’s a sweet way to end a bitter season. This is an award I share with my offensive teammates because the guys around me played great and we really came together as a team. Building off the last few games, Argos fans can look forward to exciting football in 2009.” 

Joseph completed a single-game career-high five (5) touchdown passes in a 45-38 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Rogers Centre. His 65.8% (25 of 38) completion percentage was the second-highest of the season and his 307 passing yards marked the third time in the Argos’ final four games that the 2007 CFL Most Outstanding Player had thrown for at least 300 yards. Joseph also carried 7 times for 38 yards in the contest.

The heroic performance contributed to a series of impressive offensive outbursts by the Argonauts. The Boatmen put up 120 points (30.0 avg.) in their final four games of the year and Joseph set the tone by putting up big numbers in an important game at Winnipeg. He completed more than 70% of his passes and totalled 319 passing yards in the effort. Joseph’s four game totals included 1,302 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, 1 interception and a 64.7 (90 of 139) completion percentage. Joseph’s 118.5 passer efficiency rating over those four games ranked with that of CFL Outstanding Player finalists Anthony Calvillo and Henry Burris over the same period.
