Montreal, QC – At the 2008 Gibson ‘s Finest CFL Player Awards tonight, as part of 2008 Grey Cup week festivities at the Casino de Montreal, Toronto Argonauts RB/KR Dominique Dorsey was named CFL Outstanding Special Teams Player for the first time in his career. Dorsey earned 33 of 46 first place ballots to beat out West Division nominee K Sandro DeAngelis of the Calgary Stampeders.
The most electrifying kick returner in the CFL, Dorsey becomes just the second Argonaut ever to win CFL Outstanding Special Teams Player (Bashir Levingston, 2003) and the first major CFL award winner for the Boatmen since Damon Allen was named CFL Most Outstanding Player in 2005.
He has already been named a unanimous choice for team Most Outstanding Player and Outstanding Special Teams Player, East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player, CFL All-Star at kick returner, East Division All-Star for the second-straight year at kick returner, and was recently named a CFLPA All-Star at kick returner. Dorsey is the most decorated player on the Argos roster this season. Despite missing five games due to injury, he ended the season as the CFL’s all-purpose yards leader by nearly 150 yards. The reigning East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player accumulated at least 200 all-purpose yards in a game nine (9) times this season, twice going for more than 300 yards, scored four touchdowns, was named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times and CFL Special Teams Player of the Month twice (July & September). Also, this season Dorsey set a new Argos single-season kickoff yards record (1,257) and a new club single-game kickoff yards record (225).
