Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club has secured some of its young Canadian talent for the long-term by locking up 2008 CFL Draft picks WR Mike Bradwell and OL Richard Zulys, as well as CFL veterans DL Adrian Davis, WR Brad Smith and OL Chris Van Zeyl through 2011.
Both Toronto natives, the Argos made Mike Bradwell the 13th overall (2nd Round) pick and Zulys the 37th overall (5th Round) pick in the 2008 CFL Draft. Fresh off an all-star season in 2007 at McMaster, Bradwell attended Argonauts’ 2008 training camp before returning to ‘Mac’ where he played four games and caught 23 passes for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns. Zulys also returned to school, at Western Ontario, where he stabilized the left tackle position and was named a 2nd Team OUA All-Star. A team captain, he led the 3rd-ranked Mustangs to a Yates Cup championship and the school’s first appearance in the Vanier Cup since 1995.
Adrian Davis and Chris Van Zeyl are both former CFL draft picks of the Montreal Alouettes who both found a home in Toronto. Davis dressed in three games for the Argonauts in his first season with the club while Van Zeyl joined the team in September and remained on the practice roster for the remainder of the season. Brad Smith was originally drafted by the Argonauts in the 2007 CFL Draft. He played in one game for the Boatmen before being signed by Montreal later in the year. Smith re-joined the Boatmen in September 2008.
