Mississauga – Just in time for the holidays, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club is thrilled to announce it has wrapped up DE Claude Harriott through the 2010 season.
Argonauts GM/VP, Football Operations Adam Rita commented, “Claude’s play over the final seven games of the season left a really positive impression with our coaching staff. He was relentless in his effort and his transition to the Canadian game appeared to be seamless. In a short time, Claude demonstrated that he has all of the tools we are looking for in a defensive end and we anticipate that he will help solidify our front-four for the future.”
The coaching staff agreed that Harriott was arguably the Argos’ best defensive player down the stretch. As the Boatmen transitioned to a more traditional 4-3 design, he energized the entire unit to play better. In just seven games the former Pittsburgh star made 20 defensive tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 3 tackles for a loss and 1 pass knockdown; his Argonauts and CFL debut was on September 20 at Calgary.
Commented Claude Harriott, “This is a blessing. The Argos opened doors for me to play football again and feel wanted. I saw a lot of improvement in the short time I was here, both on the defensive line and in myself. As I adjusted to the game, I found I had a lot to contribute to the team – a good team at that. It feels great to know I’ll be coming back to a dedicated group of guys who are willing to improve, and can improve, to get us into the playoffs and eventually win a Grey Cup.”
