Argos players are known to donate blood every game, but it’s normally smeared on their helmet, jersey or gloves. Unless it’s recycled as the focal point for a great story by fans and teammates later on, it can never be used again. On Thursday, Argos & CFL league office staff members decided to donate their own blood – electing to cozy up in a leather recliner at a donation clinic rather than ask LB Kevin Eiben to lay a bone crushing hit on them.
More than 20 Argonauts and CFL office staff happily gave the gift of life this holiday season. Donation times were set up throughout the day and many were first-time donors while others were seasoned veterans. All who participated grew more enthusiastic about their blood bank deposit and even started planning their next visit in 56 days.
As one of the biggest supporters of Canadian Blood Services in 2007, the Argonauts and the CFL were back to add to the more than 550 units they donated last season. The Canadian Blood Services webpage even offers a video featuring Grey Cup MVP QB Henry Burris demonstrating how simple and safe it is to donate blood.
