Boatmen Lose Yet Another Member Of The Argos Family

The Toronto Argonauts are mourning the passing of former linebacker Mike Blum who passed away earlier this week.

Pete Martin, president of the Argonuats Alumni Association, commented: “Mike was a solid Canadian lineman who came to work every week to play hard.  He was a hard-nosed defender that played with an edge and a swagger.”

Blum played five seasons with the Argos from 1968-1970 and then again from 1973-1974, playing in 52 regular season games and 8 playoff games. The Pickering, Ontario resident, who worked in the financial district following his playing days, also spent time with the Ottawa Rough Riders (64-67). While with his hometown Riders he played in a Grey Cup championship against Saskatchewan in 1966 and nearly made a game-altering play when he intercepted Ron Lancaster’s pass, but the play was overturned due to a pass interference penalty.

He also dressed for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (‘71-‘72) and won his only Grey Cup ring for the 1972 squad. Born October 24, 1943 in Ottawa, Blum attended Northern Michigan University before joining the CFL.
