I don’t think I slept more than 10 hours in four days but I had the time of my life. It was the task of your Argos Cheerleaders to go to the Grey Cup and represent for the great city of Toronto, one we did not take lightly. With a rigorous practice schedule, we were ready to show Montreal and the rest of the CFL what we were made of. From the moment we walked into the first event (The Spirit of Edmonton) I’ve never been more proud to be an Argo. Full of nervous energy, I knew we were so well prepared and confident that it was going to be a great weekend. From that moment on I knew it was going to be a weekend full of excitement and exhaustion.
Dancing more in those four days than I had ever danced in my life, it was the energy of the weekend and the support of my fellow cheerleaders that helped me through those tired moments. Also, the support of our Coach and friend, Paola Cimitan, who without there would be no ‘GO’ in Argos Cheerleaders…we made it though the whirlwind weekend.
Welcomed so warmly by each and every team, my first Grey Cup experience was one full of smiling faces and roaring cheers. During the weekend, we were privileged enough to meet all the cheerleading teams from the CFL. Even though we all came from different places and had our own unique style, there was one unifying factor and that was the pride of representing our team. The Montreal cheerleaders could not have been more inviting or professional. They even provided massage therapists the day of the game, what more can you ask for?
There are two major moments from my first Grey Cup: 1.Cheer Extravaganza, and 2. (of course) the big game. For those who may not know, Cheer Extravaganza is a big showcase of all the cheerleading teams. We were the first to perform and the room was packed from wall-to-wall. It was like being at a concert, but we were the ones on stage. Camera flashes, smiling faces, and cheers; it was an experience like no other. The day of the game, there were roughly 66,000 people in the stadium. What I remember most was the sound. It was beyond loud and full of passion – passion for the game and for the CFL.
It was a weekend full of laughs, smiles and memories. I feel extremely fortunate to be a part of the Argonaut organization, cheerleading team and fan club. The other 31 women who shared the journey with me made this season and the Grey Cup incredible.
