Mississauga – Before Brian Ramsay broke the mould in 2008, there had been a ten year lapse since the Argos last started a Canadian offensive tackle in all 18 regular season games. Today, the Argonauts are pleased to announce that Ramsay has signed a contract extension through the 2010 season.
Ramsay commented, “I am excited to be back with the Argos and am very proud to continue to be part of this organization. It was an easy decision for both my family and I to stay in Toronto, and I am looking forward to getting back alongside my teammates and competing in 2009. We have a great staff and team in place, and I believe we are gearing up for great things in the near future.”
In just his second year in the CFL, 28-year old Ramsay became the first non-import Argonaut since Dan Payne in 1997 to start all 18 regular season games at tackle. In fact, this season he was the only Canadian lineman in the CFL to start all 18 contests at the tackle position.
Toronto originally selected Ramsay in the fifth round, 39th overall, in the 2006 CFL Draft. He remained at the University of New Mexico for one more season before joining the Argos in 2007. Ramsay dressed in all 18 games as a rookie, starting two games both at right tackle. The 6-foot, 7-inch, 310-pound giant has also become an important community presence as a key member of the Argos Big Men, Big Hearts program in support of Sick Kids Foundation, and the longstanding Argos Huddle-Up Against Bullying Program.
Brian will marry his fiancée Sheri in May 2009 in their hometown of Victoria, B.C. He has also been articling at KPMG in Victoria this off-season in an effort to earn certification as a chartered accountant.
The Toronto Argonauts also announced that three-time First-Team OUA All-Star offensive tackle Scott Evans (left) has been re-signed through 2011 and import OT Brandon Joyce has been re-signed.
