Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts have signed an offensive tackle that would make Jason and his crew proud. Former Florida State OT Shannon Boatman will come to Argos training camp and compete at left tackle – or the port side of the line. The Argonauts have also signed WR Hank Edwards who was discovered when he answered a casting call for a reality television show.
At 6’6”, 320 pounds, the 24 year old Boatman is too big to join the Argonauts Rowing Club but sufficiently large enough to anchor the Argonauts’ offensive line. The former starter with the Division 1 Seminoles started his first season at tackle, and then was asked by coaching staff to switch to guard to help the team for his senior season. Prior to his time at Florida State, Boatman was twice named First-Team All-Conference and ranked the fourth-best junior college lineman in the nation.
Shannon Boatman joked when he learned of the name coincidence, “I knew that when I signed in Toronto it was meant to be. It’s reassuring that I’ll have a fan-base already in place when I get there.”
Hank Edwards has promised not to bring a film crew to his first CFL training camp, hoping to impress Argonauts coaches instead of boosting ratings. Edwards kicked off his professional football career by responding to casting-call/tryout for an AF2 team as part of a reality TV show. With AFL scouts on-hand, Edwards impressed coaches so much that they asked him to tryout at the upcoming Tampa Bay Storm training camp. He quickly raised eyebrows and became an integral part of the Storm’s starting line-up in his rookie season. The following season, Edwards ranked among the top-15 AFL receivers in receiving yards gained (1,348 on 85 receptions) and scored 30 touchdowns.
