Argos Bring In Edwards And Keith On Defence

Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts have added depth to their defence by signing CB Dovonte Edwards and LB John Keith.

A former North Carolina State team MVP on defence, Dovonte Edwards actually played his first two college seasons as a receiver. He brought his nose for the ball with him to the defence and went on to play two years in the NFL in the defensive secondary for both Minnesota and Detroit. His instincts kicked in one Monday night in 2005 against the Green Bay Packers when the ball-hawk from Chapel Hill intercepted a Brett Favre pass and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown.

John Keith comes to the Argos after a four-year college career with the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. In all four years (2005-2008), he was awarded the Scholastic Academic player of the year award. In 2008, he was nominated for the Draddy Trophy as the National Football Foundation’s National Scholar-Athlete.  He was also named his team’s Defensive MVP for two consecutive seasons in 2006 and 2007.

The Argonauts also announced today that LB Matt Hewitt and LB/S David Lofton have been released.
