Toronto – After scoring a touchdown with fans in Newmarket, the Argos are driving downfield to Oshawa for the second of two week-long regional tours. The Boatmen officially kicked off the Oshawa Regional Tour at Oshawa’s City Council meeting last night (Tuesday, May 19) where Mayor John Gray proclaimed May 23 to May 30 ‘Argos Week’ in the city. Tonight, the Argos will host a fantasy football camp with the Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and the week will culminate with a celebration of Oshawa at Argos Family Fest at Lakeview Park on Saturday, May 30.
Commented Argos receiver, and former Oshawa resident, Andre Talbot, “Oshawa is a place that I called home for many years. I still cherish the friends, family and the memories that I have from my time there, and I always look forward to visiting. When I was at Paul Dwyer H.S., there were just eight high school football teams, now there are two divisions and over 20 teams! Football is alive and well in the region and I am proud to say that the Argonauts have played an important role in the area’s commitment to football at the grassroots level. Now we want to give back to the community at large. It’s no secret that this difficult economic downturn has hit Oshawa, and its citizens, especially hard. Like a fallen teammate, we need to help pick them back up. I’m, no we’re, coming home Oshawa – See you soon!”
Led by Andre Talbot and Durham Region natives DB Delroy Clarke, OL Jeff Keeping and LB Jason Pottinger, as well as members of the 2009 Argos Cheerleaders, mascot Jason and Argos Alumni, the Boatmen will whistle in the week with a free event at the Oshawa Centre. The Argos will then appear in local schools, community centres, the hospital, restaurants, parks and even season ticket holders’ homes throughout the city.
