Mississauga – As announced by Argonauts GM/VP, Football Operations Adam Rita on today’s 2009 Season Preview conference call, the Boatmen have added five key pieces to their future. 2009 CFL Canadian draft picks WR Matt Lambros (10th overall), LB James Green (18th overall), OT Zachary Pollari (26th overall), OL Gordon Sawler (34th overall), and DB Brad Crawford (43rd overall) have all inked contracts with the team and will hit the practice field with the rest of the Argos rookies and quarterbacks on June 3.
Lambros, a Calgary native, was drafted by the Argos in the second round (10th overall) of the 2009 CFL Canadian draft. He joins the Double Blue after a four-year career at Liberty University. In 2007, Matt played in all 11 games and helped the Flames capture their first ever Big South Championship.
Green comes to the Argos after a three-year college career at the University of Calgary. A third round draft pick (18th overall), Green was named a Canada West’s All-Star in his senior year at safety. In 2007, he finished second on his team with 41 tackles.
Pollari, (PRO: Paul-a-rye) was the Argos’ fourth round pick. He played right tackle for the University of Western Ontario where he book-ended a line with left tackle and Argos’ 2008 CFL Draft pick Richard Zulys. His best season came in his senior year where he was selected to play in the 2008 CIS East-West Bowl and started in the Vanier Cup championship.
Sawler, a fifth round pick (34th overall) comes to the Argonauts after four fine years at St. Francis Xavier. As a senior, Sawler was rock solid on an offensive line that allowed his team’s ground assault to average 168.5 yards per game.
Crawford comes to the Argos after being drafted in the sixth round (43rd overall) of the draft. The brother of Argos RB Bryan Crawford, Brad played four seasons in five different positions at the University of Guelph. He finished third on his team with 34 tackles as a senior, but started his college career as a running back.
