Head Coach Bart Andrus commented after the second full day of mini-camp, “The thing with mini-camp is with repetition comes familiarity, and that’s what we’ve worked on the past two days. The players already know more than they did two days ago. It’s evident that they know more about what they’re doing and what’s expected, and have already come a long way in learning their assignments. There has been a good temp and an up-beat attitude in camp, and we (the coaching staff) feel like we’ve made progress. We’re looking forward to finishing mini-camp strong tomorrow morning.”
Both practices were physical again today, with players making contact but not tackling to the ground. Skelly drills were full speed and the defence was on their game.
During morning practice the quarterbacks, who spent most of their day with Coach Andrus again, worked on a drill that warmed up their arms and worked on throwing across their bodies. In the afternoon, the red-shirts tested their accuracy by long tossing at a net set at the two-yard line. Rookie QB #14 Kinsmon Lancaster earned praise from GM Adam Rita for demonstrating a strong and accurate throwing arm during skelly drills in the morning.
WR #82 Kenny O’neal looked good in morning practice making two impressive catches. #88 WR Mike Bradwell also pulled in a ball over the middle to cap off a.m. drills.
Earlier in the practice, RB #18 Da’Shawn Thomas burst through the line, was ready to cut 5 yards up and was met abruptly by LB #44 Derrick Ballard who wrapped up the young back with a thud. DS #49 Cory Peoples, who was in camp with the Argos in 2008, had an interception this afternoon and ran uncontested the other way.
Players are on the field for the final practice of mini-camp tomorrow (Friday) morning at 8:30 a.m. There is no afternoon practice.
NOTES: Argo TV features a post-practice interview with rookie CB #24 Dovonte Edwards who cites his ability in man-to-man defence as a skill that will benefit him in the CFL…Justin Medlock says he loves all the ‘Canadian accents’ around camp…Draft pick Gordon Sawler, of St. FX, has been spending a lot of time with former Western Mustangs and Argos draft picks Richard Zulys and Zach Pollari. When questioned about his school allegiances by a staff member, he replied, “it’s bad enough that I get it from the coaching staff and the other guys.” …More verterans arrived to watch today’s practice including Jeff Johnson and Adrian Davis in addition to those that were also on the sidelines yesterday…Dominic Picard Davis were spotted working one-on-one with eachother on the south field.
