Argos Sign Jarrett Payton & Todd Lowber

Mississauga – Argos veterans will be on the field with rookies and quarterbacks for the first time today and joining them will be newly-signed RB Jarrett Payton and WR Todd Lowber. Payton played the 2007 season with the Montreal Alouettes while Lowber signed for a brief time with the Argos in July 2008.

The Alouettes’ leading rusher in 2007, Payton is familiar with Argos’ head coach Bart Andrus from his all-star season with NFL Europa’s Amsterdam Admirals in 2005. He won a World Bowl championship while starting 13 games for Andrus’ squad. The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton, he played four seasons at the University of Miami and was named MVP of the 2004 Orange Bowl.

A basketball star in college, Lowber signed with the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings after his senior year at Ramapo without any collegiate football experience. A pure athlete, Lowber once cleared 7-feet while competing in high-jump at an NCAA track & field meet, and was a starter for two seasons with the Ramapo college basketball team in New Jersey. He earned a Super Bowl ring while on the New York Giants’ practice squad in 2007 and spent the past several months with the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins.
